Default Cam Timing Marks

I am helping a buddy with his 2005 Sportster 1200 custom, he has one hell of a noise coming out of the lower case area. When I pulled the cover, I noticed the timing marks are way off on the front exhaust cam and now I am wondering where I can find a diagram of how the cams should be set. Supposedly it has a stage 1 Screamin Beagle kit in it. I know basically nothing about this sporty I only work on EVO and older Harleys - the ones that all HD shops don't even recognize - lol

Also he told me the "manual" said to put 80/90 wt gear oil in his primary - I thought I would die laughing - can anyone help me on this? Does the primary/chaincase oil sump back into the engine oil or tranny? If it does I think he will blow his tranny seals really fast if this oil does go into the tranny and might cause even more issues if it sumps back into the engine.

If nothing else hope someone can send me in the right direction for the cam timing mark diagram.

Thanks and I hope to hear from ya'll soon,

When I took off the gear cover, the gear marks were off by almost 90 degrees on the front cylinder. The exhaust and intake were waaaayyyyy off, I am no sporty mechanic - dealing with only older big twins, but to me the marks should line up. When I started disassembling the 400 bolts that hold the carb on, I saw where there was alot of carbon in the carb intake - which to me means its backfiring through the carb, which means timing is off. So here I am back to the original question, does anyone know where I can download a pic of how this sporty should be set up on the gears. If the intake cam timing mark is at 3 o'clock and the exhaust timing mark is as 12 o'clock, this tells me something is wrong with the timing and the valves are not opening and closing at the right time.

PLEASE HELP,
Shovelheadgreg

My Cam marks don't run in a line by just taking off the cover.
