Question Jiffy Stand Nub sheered off - now what?

I was trailering my wife's 2007 Sportster Superlow and bottomed out at the top of the ramp. I saw the spring on the jiffy stand hanging and thought it was a simple re-attachment job. After I got it home, I realized the nub was sheered off.

I've been looking through the forum here for advice, but I haven't had any luck finding the road forward. One thread did say that this is so common, HD has a special tool for tapping the frame and installing a bolt.

Have any of you been through this? Did you end up welding a new nub on, or go with the HD tap/bolt solution?

I welded a bolt to what was left of mine. Just a 1/4 by 1/2" long. Works great.

I tapped mine for a 10-24 bolt. I didn't use the kit, I just went for it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a drag specialties one from revzilla. It is a direct replacement and has the nub.

Sweet! This sounds appealing since I don't weld, and my mechanic is in the midst of his busy season.

Is this a replacement kickstand with nub? I think the nub (spring retainer) he broke is the one on the frame. Interesting if they have some kit for the frame.

I found a stand on their site, but it uses the stock spring/nub. There is a bolt-on stand for 1980s/1990s models, but nothing for 2007.

Oh ok. I misunderstood what part exactly was broken. I was only referring to the stand itself.

Thanks for the input.

Since I don't weld, and my mechanic is booked for weeks, I took it to my local HD Dealer. They will fabricate a new nub and weld it on, and I'll have it back in a few days. I couldn't bring myself to drill a hole into the frame.

BTW, they got two Sportsters with this same issue on the same day. I guess it is a pretty common occurrence.

Your bike is the very first I recall reading about. I've read a lot about how to install a new spring, and also lost kickstands due to the hinge pins falling out, but can't recall a broken frame spring nub post. Like Mom always said, you're "special."

Are there unusually tall speed bumps in your town?

John
