throttle freeplay
I just got my 2008 sportster back from having the oil tank replaced and there is about a 1/4 inch of freeplay on the throttle. What should it be? should I take it back or is it pretty easy to adjust myself? Thanks!

It's very easy to adjust yourself, and to me, it should be whatever you find comfortable. I like about 1/32" free play.

Pretty easy to adjust. I like my throttle tight (no slack)

Easy peasy.
The adjusters are under the rubber boots at the top of the cables. Roll back the boots. A little play is normal and called for in the manual. |
Why did you have the oil tank replaced? That's an unusual one (at least to me)!

The seam was leaking. They replaced it under warranty.

There are 2 cables to adjust. Which one do I adjust?

I'm guessing the pull cable. The cables twist/un-twist around the throttle as you rotate it. One pushes and one pulls. One clockwise, one counter clockwise. Sitting on the bike, the pull cable is the one farthest away. Make reference marks with a Sharpie before adjustment if you're nervous.
