Default Flat Black Paint

Hello everybody. Just joined the forum today and got a question...more of a problem. Got an Iron 883, black denim. I had a few scuffs on the tank, so I tried buffing them out with Meguiar's scratch remover. Now I have a big shiny spot on my flat black gas tank...whoops. How do I get rid of it???

Without repainting the tank your best bet will be to go over the whole tank with what you've already used and with time the denim will show up again.

Buffing/polishing/waxing is usually not advised with a flat finish. I would do what mreed said and make the whole tank even.

I used a polish which had a built in wax, which I didn't know at the time, tank was funny/shiny for a while but in the end the black denim came back to it's flat back look after a few weeks and cleans

I was told the paint doesn't have any clear coat on it, so you can't use a LOT of products. Simply put, I don't clean mine further than a dust wipe down.

It should have a clear or you would have issues with the paint flaking off and the tins rusting.. its more likely that there is a flat clear coat on it.

+1 to what was said above.. I would go ahead and finish it up just to make it look even.. then over the next few weeks.. wash it with some good soap and water a few times.. it will eventually come back.

BlHill... the HD dealer sells a touch-up pen for denim for about $15 ... that is probably the simplest option... specially since the Denim tank paint always gets scratched up .. I realized that the flat denim paint is pretty much impossible to maintain in pristine condition.. but the touch-up pen helps in making those scratches less visible..

I scratched the side cover and got the touch up pen, and it doesn't work, at least not for me...the color is significantly different and easy to tell. It's hard to say, but it's more glossy than the denim, and darker. I didn't have much luck with it.

Thanks everybody for the pointers. I'll try washing it out over a few weeks and if that doesn't work, well, I guess I'll go over the whole tank with the scratch remover.
