Nightster/48 copper tank breather (downgrade)
"It's a rainy day, it's raining outside and I can't go out and play"
So what do I do today...I stay inside and work on my downgrade. I just reffer to it as that because this piece is not as practical as the original piece.
This is my copper line #2 because some of you that remember I put one also on my crank case breathers, so it only makes sense that I match it on the other side.
Anyways this is how it went. I had this left over line from the last copper breather project and it didn't take much.
See this breather line below. this line keeps your tank from building pressure. Open up your gas cap and yelp you guessed it! that line that's poppin out under your cap is the breather.
Now I was in need for a new line because my tank swap to a 48 peanut left me a couple inches short . there is nothing attached to the other end of this line is it travels to the bottom of the bike, and the ontly thing holding it in place is just one plastic clamp that gets concealed behind the battery cover.
Maybe I use unorthodox methods to make my bends, but i don't own any pipe benders nor do I feel the need to buy any. I have pleanty of rounded objects I can work with.
Lots of caution should be practiced as you DO NOT want the copper to collapse on you at the bend, and it is extremely easy to do! You can feel it happening with the closer you position your fingers around the pressure points. There are ways around this like packing your lines with sand, or freezing water in the line until iced, but who has time for this. (would give you some sharpass bends though, maybe even a real pipe bender)
this pic above shows the stock breather line next to the new copper line. Notice the gap I had from reaching the 48 tank.
Now i don't have a practical, or conventional method of customizing my bike. Some might gasp at the thought of going to the peanut, and or some may not like the idea of mixing copper tones with polished aluminum, or chrome.
I can only assure you that everything will all make sense when the bike comes back from paint in early november. Anyways it's my F***ing bike!
