Default 1200R Riders?

Getting ready to pull the trigger on an 04 1200R today. Had a few Sportys in the past and have enjoyed them, but never had an R but looks to be a pretty nice ride. Opinions?

Default roadster...

I have an 07 1200r - rode my friends 2010 1200n and my nephews 2006 1200c - would not trade for either one...

The 1200r handles corners and breaking much better.

Better ground clearance, more lean angle and equal lean angle on both sides + dual front breaks can only = better handling.

I read somewhere that before the 1200xr came out that the 1200r was considered one of if not the best handling harley made(street legal).

Reminds me of riding an enduro sometimes, but I can do long hauls on it to. Did over 2800 miles in 8 days in Wyoming this summer.

I love mine.
I've had 8 street bikes and this is my favorite by far, I've also ridden quite a few new HD models at the demo days and wouldn't trade for any of them.
Buy it...you'll love it!
(but please don't buy an "R" and put a windshield, crash bar and saddle bags on it)

please also no lowering kit...no forward controls...the r is made to handle the twisties...
I have highway pegs to stretch out on long hauls, also a quick detach sissy-bar I only use it for passenger or strapping lugage(mostly off the bike). Flyscreen on front to take the edge of the wind also helps hide headlight brow and spedo\tach.

See, that's the nice thing about opinions...everyone has one and nobody's counts but your own. I love my bike as it is with all the things you dislike...but it's mine. The only thing that matters is the ride...

Cool R for Roadster,,

2008 EFI XL1200R,,,,Black ofcourse,,
Had to tune the forks a bit,,
added preload and a Fork brace,,
32 degree's lean angle both sides,,

I really Really like this bike XD
I was Hard over In a turn recently,,pegs near the ground
and one butt cheek hangin off.
Front tire slipped to the outside a few Inches,,
I leaned forward a bit more and pushed on the upper bar,
steered deeper on the turn.
She dug in and I rocketed off the apex..
I'm gonna add the Ricor Intimidators,,
http://store.ricorshocks.com/default.asp
and prolly their rear shocks also..

The R Is great,,
The dual front brakes give you alot of swept area,
Two fingers for all your stopping needs,,great feel.
The Tach Is kinda cool, I don't look at It much anymore tho

Hey, the Roadster was apparently designed before "form" definitely won over "function" in the Harley model line-up. After I decided not to change my trusty BMW R 1200 GS for an Electra Glide earlier this year I came to the conclusion that a cheaper Hog to own among my Beemer would scratch my Harley itch sufficiently, but I wasn’t able to choose from 2010 or 2011 stock bikes. I mean, all those slammed suspensions and tiny tanks look really cool parked in the front of Starbucks, but I buy my bikes to ride them. In the end I found a 2008 Roadster in UK that I liked, so I had it imported to my country. Should be delivered within a week or so. With its 4gallon tank, long-throw suspension and triple disc brakes it sounds like it’s been developed to actually be ridden. I can’t wait to find out!

The R was the only Sporty I was looking for when I went looking for a Sportster because of it's handling design and dual discs up front. Having a tach already on the bike is also a big plus for me. More suspension travel than the other Sportster models.

Looks like everyone is forgetting about the XL1200S (Sportster Sport model). Dual front disc brakes (with dual piston calipers), fully adjustable suspension, dual plug heads, factory tach, among other things. Quite a blast to ride and fun in the twistys.
