Default Battery Cover Clips 06 Sportster

So far mine has been in to get the clip put back on. The first ride after the service, I dropped the battery cover on the road and had to turn around an go pick it up. Luckily minor scratches. The clip is not covered because its considered a wear and tear item. The only reason mine was opened up was the clips failed.

The bike is new and I just got the Harley survey and want to know how many people are experiencing this issue and if they are isolated incidents.

So, the question is - Does/do your Sportys battery cover clips suck ?

Mine are fine so far... I've only had the cover off once. If you can, you may want to edit your question in the poll to reflect your question in your post. My first thought was: yes, I still have battery clips. Instead, after reading your post, I voted mine don't suck... yet (or they do and I don't know it).

If pulling the cover off only once leaves the clips in a questionable state of re-use, then the answer can only be "yes, they suck." Using an unreliable clip to fasten a necessary part seems counterintuitive. [sm=confused06.gif]

"Wear & Tear" my a$$. I've had 3 different clips replaced, no charge. I think the newest version works. Haven't had a problem with the last one. I'm not sure, but I'd say it's been on for at least 3,000 miles.

I've had the battery side of my '04 on and off quite a number of times (I tinker), and no problem -- yet.

Default Sportster battery cover clips

I came back from Rolling Thunder with the battery cover gone from my 04 883xl custom. A month ago, I replaced the worn clips with new ones from H-D and all seemed well.

Now I'm looking for a reasonably priced replacement cover.

Mine fell off and I never knew it. Picked up a new one and "zipped" it on. All is good.

There is a new part from the MOCO and I installed it when my cover fell off the week after my 1200 upgrade was done. I went in and talked with the service manager and he was really cool and GAVE me a replacement cover at no charge...but I had to buy the $10 cover clip. I have had it on for over 3500 miles since and it works great.
