No Sportsters allowed!
#131
Ok, I realize this is an older thread. But the original posting sounds fishy to me. I'm a patched member of a 1% MC, and Sportsters are fine, as long as they're 1200cc. We have five chapters and plenty of guys have Sportsters, although most of them have other bikes also. All bikes must be American and have at least 1200cc. That's just so you can keep up on the highway where we ride tandem and fast, usually 85 plus. I don't know what kind of club the OP was looking at but even the well known 1% clubs allow Sportsters. I have one.

Ancient thread I know but so far I have not seen anything in the USA that resembles the Sportster Sickness FB group that is so popular in Great Britain . We have 8500 members and countless local sub groups . There are no rules except good manners and respect for others . It can be anything you want it to be. There are runs and social events including " The Big One " in April where there will be a parade on a race circuit of 600 + Sportsters . Or if you have other commitments it can be a source of technical help and advice . Maybe this only works because we all live on a ( Relative to the USA ) small island . I'm looking forward to attending some of the runs and events this summer . Stick " Sportster Sickness " in YouTube and have a look . Oh yeah , 883's are equally welcome .

All of the experienced groups of riders of all ages and backgrounds I've been riding with over the last 56 years have been extremely courteous and respectful, regardless of the bike's origin, history, size or speed. We've all kept our distance from each other and ride single file, alternating left and ride side of the lane we're in so that "cagers" don't try to pass us without completely changing lanes. Most of my riding is alone but I always welcome the company of my friends, individually or as a group. I like Poker Runs and I've been riding with the CMA (Christian Motorcyclist Association) for a while even though I'm not a member. I distrust "cagers" far more than bikers. So far, I haven't seen any bikers try to text while riding.
