First thing to do....
When I get my Sportster, I will have about 800-1000 to work with on upgrading the bike.
I need some ideas of the best things to start with?
Exhaust, handle bars? Seat? Forward Controls?
There are so many options with these bikes, it is kind like a Mustang, just to much to chose from.
Advice and experiences......
OTHER THAN JUST RIDE IT......;-) Going to do that anyways.

Heard some sound advice here before:
Ride it for 1,000 miles or so before changing anything. It will give you a better idea of what you are looking for and build it that way.

You may not even like forward controls. I say Stage 1, or seat.

It usually consists of an upgraded air cleaner and pipes (Slip on or full exhaust). May also include a tuner chip.

Ride it for a few weeks and then figure out what you want to change.

Howzit
Take your time there are so many options out there so do the changes slowlly,
There are two reasons for swopping out bits and pieces,Looks and rider comfort
you have to decide which which choices offer you the best of both.Ride... ride... ride then go for the changes.H
