I mentioned a red cotton gauze air filter that can be oiled to use in lieu of the paper filter that has been mentioned in this thread. You can get one of these filters at the link below.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Pcs-Red-Co.../252672751240?

It is the exact same size as this Mr. Gasket filter you can get at Advance Auto for $7.99 (P/N 1489A if you can't see it in my crappy picture). Both are 3-7/8" OD and 2"H.

So if you fabricate an AC housing to match the Mr. Gasket, you can always replace it with an inexpensive (versus K&N) oiled, red cotton gauze filter. No one will know it's Chinese.

Just putting some more information out there.

Probably a good idea. Changing air flow will affect tuning.

Playing with as many carbs as I have, I'm still no expert. Loving EFI.
My advice: go ahead and do your air cleaner. How the bike reacts will then let you know about carb changes needed.

Resources: Search this forum well. Lots of good people.
Have a Factory Service Manual. Other forums and Google can also help. ' The truth is out there '.

Small, cheap & easy do it yourself air cleaner (lots of pics)-20170327_134604.jpgThis plastic ring in my 2000 Sporty Screamin Eagle air cleaner and my son's 1998 Low Rider is located on the backing plate at the entrance to the carb. and seems to have an effect on how the air enters the carb. after it passes through the filter and I am wondering how important it might be to incorporate into our after market and do it yourself air cleaners?
