Default Bike hasn't been ran in over a year, now what?

Hi guys!
I have a 2006 883XL that I haven't been able to ride for just over a year. It's been sitting in my garage in a good climate. I want to start riding again in the spring, but I want to ensure I take all precautionary measures not to damage anything since its been sitting for a while. Is there anything I need to do? Or can I just crank er up with some fresh gas?

Thanks!

BTW, she definitely needs a new battery, so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be much appreciated!

I hope you've had it on a battery tender all this time or else your battery might be gone. You'll also be lucky if your carb isn't gummed up. Change all your fluids and try it.

Also something that helped me bring mine back to life, was Sta-bil.
I was lery about it at first but my pop swore by it. If your carb or fi isn't completely gummed up this will really help.

if it wasn't on a battery tender you'll have to charge the battery or maybe even replace it.. drain the gas tank then fresh gas. put about 1/2 can of berryman's chem 12 carb cleaner in with the fresh gas...check all the oil levels then get going........

All Fluids,,and DUMP the Gas Tank !!!,,not In the yard or toilet tho,,,
If the Carbs ok an ya get a battery your almost there,,,
Last thing,,

CHECK the tires very very closely,,any tiny little cracks ?? dry rot ??
An 06 bike has 05 tires and Its 2011 now,,
I would not run tires over 4 years old no matter what they looked like,,,
But thats just me.
Rubber dries out,,a blowout hurts,,,,
My 2008 Is getting new tires at the end of this comming summer,,

+1 on stabil if your storing. And +1 on the berrymans if you didnt use stabil. You will def have some gumming somewhere. It may require pulling the air filter off and spraying some B12 into the intake. Just dont get it on your paint.

If your gas has been stabil'd and the oil is full, you should be good to go. Change the oil real soon. Probably not necessary but you could fog the cylinders before you start it to prevent scoring?
