Getting only 35 miles per gallon on my 883 :(
So I just bought an 05 883 on monday, and I filled it up two days ago, cleared the trip odometer, and today I cleaned out my tank, it recorded 113.6 miles, and so if I divide 113.6/3.3, it's about 35 mpg.
is that normal? Cos I see on websites it says 883 gets like 45 mpg even on street roads.
i know the guy had drag specialities slip ons added, as well as a KnN filter.
no other mods, can someone tell me if this is normal?
thanks!

05 is carb, and I put in 3.32gal today. yep!
I don't understand what do u mean by how does it run. can u explain and maybe I'll know what u meant? I'm still learning the terms right now
hmm I've ridden 2 up for like a total of 10 mins, and I ride streets only since I'm a new rider. Rev it now and then to get a feel of the bike, I usually cruise in 3rd gear. havent gotten to 5th yet.
so yea, I believe I've divided the fuel to milege correctly. which does put me at arnd 34-35 mpg.

I think this is your problem. Your best mileage is gonna come out on the highway at a steady speed, and in 5th gear. Cruising the back streets in 3rd gear, I'd say you're getting really good mileage.

then you have the 4.5 gallon tank and as far as running I mean when you hit the throttle does it pop or backfire alot or seem like it is starving? Have you checked your spark plugs? Better spark burns it better. Are you getting a strong fuel smell from your carb? Smooth acceleration thru the gears? I know when I am running the mountains around here I get worse mileage but that is to be expected, harder throttle and higher reving & 2 up riding.
