Default quiet pipes

got the sportster in the fall with no baffles in the stock pipes ... previous owner used a hole saw to remove them .... that really isn't going to fly any more ... local sound ordinace and I just don't need the tickets ... watched flea bay for most of the winter trying to score a set of unmodifed stock pipes with no luck .. so being an engineer ... I made some out of some stainless 2 inch dia sink strainers some theaded rod and fender washers ... installed them last night ... what an improvement ... I almost think I can get away with them they are probably 30 % quiter and they still seem to flow really well ... I got all of 15 dollars in the mods ... in fact I may add another pair of flat strainers in between the current 3 ... I got neighbors I have to deal with and trust me no one is going to tolerant the nosiy pipes come the summer open window season ... just my 2 cents worth ... I read bunch of articles and looked at dozens of web sites for idea ... had a fluidics class back in 74 where I learned about turbulant flow in pipes ... just applied what I knew and could learn ... break up the flow and redirectly slightly ... will take it for a good ride tonight with the gf on board and up the steep 3 mile hill near by giving it a real load test ... a man has to just make do some times ...

That is a very cool way to quiet them down and it didn't cost you a lot. Nice work.

Did you post in the "parts wanted" section of this forum?

Although...your baffles are pretty McGyver - good job!

Cool idea, how did you fix them inside your mufflers?

+1, Yep adding some packing will get you where you want it.
