2008 nightster build
i have had my Nighster for a little over a year and have been slowly building it.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_1545.jpg when i got it it had the SE slip-ons and thats it. the 1st mod that i did was the AC and PC III. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_1719.jpg i could tell a difference the moment i cranked it over. it got rid of the surging that i was having due to the slip-ons. after the PCIII i swapped the bars for drags that are 30in with 4in pullback. i rode the bike this way for the summer and fall and then decided i was going to chop the rear fender and paint it. removing the tins was a breeze but finding the space to mount the ecm and power commander was a task. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3892.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3893.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3894.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3895.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3896.jpg i removed the battery and oil bag to run the harness between the frame and the oil bag. i then mounted the ECM where the fender goes into the frame. i have never painted anything before but i have a buddy from work that is a painter. since the paint was in great shape all we had to do was wet sand the clear off and use some prep-all to get it ready. here is a pic of the homemade paint stand and booth. i wanted to paint the tank in a flat black with red and white but after some thought i decided to go with an hot rod flame. i am planning on some whitewalls and maybe red pinstripping around the flames to give it a little color. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3900.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3903.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3905.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3906.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3907.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3908.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_3916.jpg finished and ready to ride! http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4118.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4117.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4119.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4120.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4121.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/IMG_4122.jpg i also made a tank lift, coil bracket and turn signal brackets. wrapped the pipes and installed forward controls. the seat is from redtailleather.com and i can say that the seat is great. i made the bracket for the seat also. let me know if you have any questions and what you think of the bike. thanks! |
Bike looks killer man, love it! I really like the AC cover, did you make it or buy it? The pipes look a bit funny to me, but not too bad. Over all very cool looking bike.

nice and clean.
did you just remove the mufflers ? |
yes i removed the slip-ons and had a section of pipe cut to 13in and welded on. its a cheap way to change the look and all it cost me was $12 for the pipe and welding and about $50 for the wrap.
to answer the question about the AC cover i got it off ebay. look for xflow. they have a few different AC. that being said i wish that i would have picked up the smaller one they make. my leg hits this one. another thing i found out today when i took it out for the 1st ride is that the new seat has pulled me back a good 3-4in. makes me feel like i am riding my old R6 http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3.../SELLR6001.jpg i think i am going to try out a set of 10in licks z-bars. if anyone wants to trade for the drags just send me a PM. i would throw in some cash too since we will need to swap brake lines. and thanks for the positive comments.
