Hey mreed,

I got my mount and breather bracket today in the mail and noticed that the 1/4-20 screws that I'm supposed to use on the EVO engine is too short. Did you have to go get longer ones? With the washer to hold the back plate of the air filter in place and the depth of the actual breather bracket, there would barely be any threads to screw into the mount.

Thanks.

What mount did you get? They don't need to be very long unless you have the integrated crank case breather. You can get em pretty much anywhere. Just try to get regular zinc or stainless. They only need to thread in to the carb 1/4" or so.

Would you recommend either the breather kit from eBay or using my current bracket with bolts like you make?
Carb mount preferance depends on your wallet. The integrated kit will space the filter out abolut 1/2" further than the mount you have now.

My crank case breather bolts will mist oil occassionally (not much at all). The integrated kit keeps it clean all of the time.

I got the integrated crank case breather but the screws that came in that kit were too short. It would barely clear the crank case breather and with the back plate of the a/c and the washer, there would be no thread going into the carb. Bought a couple 1/4-20 hex bolts at Lowes but was kind of pissed that they would supply with such short screws to begin with. The screws I got at Lowes were 1'' long and they were the perfect size...any shorter and it's worthless.

Anyways, finally got the 4'' a/c done. I was planning on trying to put the skull decal on the a/c cover but it was too big and the fact that the one from Auto Zone is a bit concave doesn't help either. Didn't want to mess with it so just slapped it onto the oil tank.

Thanks much for a great little project. I've had an iron cross A/C fly off on me while riding down the highway...let's see if this baby holds on.

Now that you mention it I had the same bolt issue with mine. Anymore, the correct hardware is a crap shoot. Looks great though!

I just got a new air cleaner for $30 that I'm gonna mount this weekend...should give me more leg clearance compared to the forcewinder I have now. I guess the bracket I have give me a little more leg clearance as well compared to the full breather bracket kit.

The crank case breathers are integrated in the mount. I have one on my Nightster too but I powdercoated it black. They work great.

Did you make the AC in this pic? If so can you give a short write up? I was comparing it to the louvered one thinking a pair of tin snips around the louvers would take care of it?

That's a super cheap Dragtron that I powdercoated and fitted a K&N air cleaner in because the steel wool/foam crap one it came with got sucked down my throttle body

Bump. Thanks mreed, I really, really like the looks of the round cleaners but can't fit the fancy ones into the budget. Here's the current ebay offering, just checking to make sure it's what I need:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMPI-8674-ST...70239233110%26

Also, for folks using this with the K&N filter--- can this stand rain??

We vacation on bikes and apt to ride in any kind of weather, so I need to make sure before I go this route. Thanks

Sarah
