Default How many own a Sportster Sport

I was wondering how popular the Sportster Sport was. I have a 2001 peral white model. Are they any faster than the standard sportster.

Don't know if they are any faster, but probalbly quicker, better handling and stopping for sure. Twin disks up front and highly tuneable suspension front and back. Mine is a 2003 1200S, last year of the solid mount motor and twin plug heads.

Another 2003 Sport model owner here.

As I am sure you know, the Sport model has the 3 disc brakes(2 discs in front, 1 for rear...2000(?) and later models use the 4 piston calipers), the lightning dual-plug heads, fully adjustable suspension on all four corners, a tachometer, different ignition that uses a different coil and a MAP sensor instead of VOES, and the ignition module is located under the seat. More aggressive "W" grind cams (which are now standard on 2004 and newer XL's), and a different carb w/ different jetting. I think that about sums it up. Pay the tax and they are probably the best Sportster bang for the buck. Us "S" model owners are definitely in the minority, especially considering the low production volume of S models (31,001 total between 96-2003).

I did not know they only made 31000 of them. I dont ride mine as much as I used to. I ride my Dyna more often than the sport, but am never planning on getting rid my sportster sport. This bike is very comfortable to ride. Mine has 7,000 miles on it and the only mods done are Vance and Hines single exhaust, Screaming Eagle module Screaming eagle air filter element bhind the stock air cleaner. I honestly think my Sporttser is faster than my 09 Dyna.

Another one here; a 1998, which belongs to my wife.

Not metric fast, but plenty fast nonetheless.

A great hooligan bike!

Default Sportster Sport Owner in South Africa

Hi Guys, I bought a 2000 Sportster Sport 1200S (HDI Spec) with 10, 000 miles on the clock. 100% original condition except for the tyres which have been replaced with Bridgestone Spitfire S11 Sport Touring tyres. When I got hold of the bike it was standing in a company's entrance hall as a showpiece. Nobody rode it for the past 2years. Unfortuntely, there are not a lot of people in SA who have knowledge about these HD bikes. When I ordered plugs from HD they only supplied 2 as nobody knew that it uses 4 plugs. Also, the HDI spec uses a different air filter to the USA models.

The bike is not very fast but have lots of power which is better for cruising. Also, the whole engine story re the Sport is very interesting. (The Engine mods was originally made to satisfy Buell which used the same engine) Anyway - HAPPY RIDING in 2013

Harry,

Enjoy the new ride, yes HD is not the fastest bike but we all ride them for the long haul, IE: 20-40 years. Do the oil change, use good oil not the crap from K-fart.

A I assume SA is south Africa (I believe south America might not be correct).

Pictures would be nice.

Regards,
David

Default Got one too

Just got mine on Friday, 1998 reg, with 7342 miles on it, and luckily hardly a mark on it.
For what I paid for it my friend reckons I stole it!
Haven't had it out yet due to icy roads but am looking forward to it. It will sit nicely alongside my Guzzi 1000S and my 1965 BSA Lightning Clubman.
Don't think I'm going to do too much to it as I like it the way it is, maybe single seat , smaller indicators, and a rack when needed.
I am trying to find the tyre pressues on the 'net, as the PO forgot to send me the owner's manual, (hopefully it will be here in the next few days), but checked the Dunlop site and they don't give much info, Dunlop Elites F&R., any ideas?
