Are Sportsters considered "starter" Harley's?

I consider any HD a personal preference. Is that the common belief? So if you own a fatboy it's not more or less than a sportster; just different.

People look at Sportsters as beginner Harleys because of the price. That being said, they're definitely not beginner Harleys. Many people ride nothing but Sportsters, and they are a solid bike.

There is a reason they have been around since 1954, a big twin can't beat that.

Also, think of this, how many guys you know started on a Sportster and moved up to a big-twin? Every one that I have met says they wish they still had that Sporty. :)

I pay no particular attention to what people say about my bike.

All I know is it's raw power with no fancy accessories. It's a bike that I can customize, ride the crap out of, and not have to wash every day in order to look good.

Some ppl think that way. I was talking to a guy one night and he thought bcuz I had a sporty that I just started riding. After I advised him I have been riding for over 30yrs he told me he got his motorcycle course 3 yrs ago. Glad I got that out of the way bcuz if he started giving me riding tips, I would have told him STFU.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Go to the “show me you 48’s” thread. Some of the best looking HD’s are shown there. It’s all about what you like. I am not a fan of the big chrome covered bikes that the likes of Motley Crew would prance around on in video’s (remember them?) I love the stripped down, raw machines that look like custom choppers. Most of all it’s not about luxury – it’s about attitude. When I look at a road king I think to myself…why you would ever want that beast. It’s not a bike; it’s a convertible car. Stereo, gps, etc. Come on. That’s not what motorcycles are about…for me. Fat Boy…okay Terminator. The sportster line, esp. the 48 represent everything that makes HD cool in the first place.

really...I guess you mean the fat, triangle shaped things that we might see on the Jerry Springer show. Last time I checked a 500lbs bike was a bit much for type of woman I share my bed with. Different strokes for different strokes I guess.

They might b for the girls u ride with. I dont ride with girls, they might be passengers but there not holding the handlebars.
As an X soldier, I don't need females on the battlefield cuz horndogs get all stooopid with women around and make dumb decisions, end Of story.

If I was going to put someone on a bike for the first time it wouldn't be a Sportster. Too much torque and a little over powered for a first bike IMO. It is doable dont get me wrong. With a little patience and caution. My first bike was a V-star 650, and my 1200 xlc feels like a damn hotrod compared to that thing. I'm glad I learned on a smaller underpowered bike. I could pound the shit outa that 650 and if I made a mistake it wasn't magnified.
