Default Remove lower belt guard?

I am thinking about removing the lower belt guard from my bike. I really want to because I am digging that nice clean look, but I do not know if it is necessary for road debris or something. So, what exactly is the lower belt guard for? Are there any concerns that I might need to be aware of? I already removed the upper belt guard. I figured that it was just to prevent passengers from getting their shoe caught or something.

pulled mine off my last bike and put over 40k on it without incident. Took it off my Sporty also. Don't think it will make a difference unless you're doing motocross. (Oh yeah, and there is that kitten thing)

Tons of guys on the RS Warrior do that, and when I was active in that community, no one had ever seen a problem from it.

Every now and then you would hear of a guy who lost a belt due to getting something in there, but half the time they had their lower guards in place...so I think you are pretty safe.

I pulled mine off my Heritage when I went to the larger pulley. Been riding all summer and haven't had any problems. Just don't take it off road and I'm sure you'll be fine...
