plugs look ok?
Just doing my 1K service and decided to check plugs and gap. front plug was gapped a little to large, so put it back to spec.
These pics are at about 1.5K miles. - always premium gas - removed baffles - XIEDs - K&N and no airbox http://www.ramsinks.com/heli/plug1.JPG http://www.ramsinks.com/heli/plug2.JPG If there is a better plug to use.. or any other suggestions let me know (different gap to use since i'm running xieds? etc) thanks. |
Looks just like mine at 1500. Mine is completely stock and dont have any performance upgrades tho, if your able I'd give it just a tad more fuel until the white on the electrode matches the rest of the plug.

^^^ It's a bit lean.

Your plugs look better than a stock machine's plugs.
My stock XL1200X plugs are WHITE on the ground strap, and I do mean "OMG THAT IS F'n LEAN" white. The rest of the my plug is normal with flat black fuel deposits lightly dusting the face of the seat. I still have to wait to be able to afford to modify and tune my bike, but I made a deal that I wouldn't buy anything for it until we closed on a house and I'm hunting for the right combo (gotta have a shop). |

Just curious and yes I know only 1k but I would have just cuz I would think well shit Im going to do all this other stuff anyway |
Looks fine to me. Plug reading is a lot harder than it used to be with the stuff they put in gas these days. You aren't really harming your engine where it's at, so if it runs fine I say stick with it.
As far as plugs, I noticed you had the HD ones. When you come to your first plug change, use Champion RA8HC plugs. They are the exact same ones that have the Harley-Davidson on them at a much cheaper price. |

Here are mine after 14,000 with a PCIII.
Freeb, I got this picture from that site to compare to mine, I figured, close enough. |
awesome, thanks guys.
i just didn't buy plugs, but wanted to see what they looked like. I know i'm pop'n on deceleration sometimes since I went with a better intake setup. It did look slightly lean.. but since it's EFI not much I can adjust there without re-map. which i might do anyways since i have a buddy that works at HD and he might just do it. |
so i take it the whole "splitFire" era is done. back in my mustang race days, we used to run higher temp plugs to compensate for air/fuel ratios. it's been years and this is a harley... so i just don't see anyone talking about "higher end plugs" or hotter gap'n.
