Unless you only plan to cruise on highways, mid-mount controls are far more useful and safe. I bought the very expensive (for the newer Sportsters) adjustable highway pegs and they are great for touring and cruising. Once you get in traffic and/or need to go on rougher roads and/or unpaved areas, having the mid mounts available is essential.
For your year, I think there are very inexpensive highway pegs available.
like i said in your 1st post , kuryakyn highway/cruise bar 150 bucks , i have no issues using my forwards on rougher roads and stop and go traffic even unpaved roads , dirt lane no issues...

Hmmm. I would find it difficult to stand up on forward controls. There were situations in my recent tour in Europe where I had negotiate very tight corners on extreme inclines on unpaved roads/trails in the Alps and I had to use the Sportster like an "adventure" bike. I was often riding with BMWs and Transalp type bikes. Anyway, to each his own.
