I was going for the same, but then I changed my mind when I read Mobil1 web site about their 75W90 and yellow metals interaction.
I've suggest a GL4 and not a GL5 oil in there.

My understanding is that we do not have any yellow metals in the primary/transmission

Also, I emailed Mobil to ask them what they recommend and sent them this thread haha

I'll be sure to post their "official" response

Their 75W90 is gear oil. Here's more on that:

No yellow metals? Do you have an iron-wired stator?

I wish this guy updated the thread with his results. I still can't find a firm answer on if we should run 20w50 or 75w90 in the primary.

What's the current consensus?
20-50 motor oil and 75-90 gear oil are nearly the same viscosity. They use a different rating system for motor oil vs. gear oil.

I currently have AMSoil 20-50 in the motor and a 75-90 gear oil without friction modifiers in the transmission. I will be running AMSoil 20-50 in the transmission within another week or so.

As for the "definitive" answer, there isn't one exactly. The key is to not run oil with friction modifiers or substances that can damage the components in your wet clutch system or frag your stator. Other than that, just make sure you are in a viscosity range that suits the temps and usage and pick an oil brand that has been PROVEN to work. I have had experience with many oils while auto racing and have found mine. You can send your samples to blackstone labs for testing.

Alright, here is the official word that I just received from Mobil -

"Both answers are correct. The 75W90 can be used in conjunction with the 20W 50 or you can use the 20W50 straight out. Both products will have success in protecting you but if one works smoother in your bike then I would use that one. Every engine is a little different and may ride smoother with one product or the other."

So yeah.....no real definitive answer. I'll run the 20w50 and call it a day

No mention of "yellow" metals issues? Then what was the comment on their M1 website all about?

I just put a quart of M1 LS 75W-90 in my tranny, should I get it out and change to something else?

Aren't the windings on the stator sealed?

How hard is it to get a straight answer on this?

John
