2002 Sportster 883C Electrical Problem
I have a 2002 Sportster 883C with the Screamin' Eagle stage 1,2 &3 upgrades and a little over 17000 miles on the odometer. About a week ago while on my way back from a camping trip from Mammoth Cave, Kentucky I stopped for fuel and my sportster would only give me the starter selinoid "click click, click". My buddy was with me so we push started it and it got me the remaining 90 miles home out of a 600 mile trip. Unfortunately I shut the bike down before I took a voltage reading. I took the battery in to have it tested at our local Advanced Auto Parts store and it tested "replace". I bought a new battery last Wednesday, installed it and it was good to go or so I thought! Today the wife and I took a ride to the HD dealership up in Valparaiso, IN (about 70 miles) and guess what...it happened again . Once again my wife and I were with another couple so a push start did the trick and I was home bound. Got home and put a volt meter across the battery and 8.47 volts was all I was getting regardless of rpm. While at low revs the speedo is eratic and my turn indicators and tail light are intermittent...definitely not safe on the highway! When I turned on my turn signals on the way home (when they worked) my speedo would go dead (the speedometer and digital odometer). I've already replaced the voltage regulator about 3 months ago due to a speedo problem (over voltage) and that solved that issue. Before I take it to a dealership and spend a bunch of money for a possible simple fix (mainly because of frustration) I wanted to get your (the forums) advice. I'm not real mechanically talented but I can due the basics with confidence. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have a short somewhere which is seriously draining your battery power. Can you put your meter across the starter terminals? The meter should read source voltage when not cranking and drop to 0V when cranking. The ignition system could also cause a big leak like this too, so if you know which wires you can probe, try that too. Make sure normally closed relays are closed when not powered and normally open relays are open when not powered, etc.
