Info on 48 front-ends

Got a 2007 883L I want to turn into a 48 lookalike with a 16" front wheel. Are the 48's a wide glide or mid-glide? Does anyone make a conversion kit to do this?

cpracing519 11-04-2011 09:26 AM

they are more like a mid glide. Not sure if there is a conversion kit out yet?

They are mid glides. I have seen a few MG trees, but are about the same price as factory trees, which will run you in the $250 range for the upper, just under $300 for the upper.

Thanks guys! Check out this link if you have time and advise me if I have the correct kit selected... http://vulcanworks.net/store_4/produ...&cat=11&page=2

This kit which is a mid-glide makes no mention of a 16" wheel... http://vulcanworks.net/store_4/produ...&cat=11&page=3
This will be used on a 2007 883L with the pictured tins.

hey!... your scoot is going to look great with those tins!... question... are your front end forks chromed? the kit you selected is chromed... also.. .make sure you select the correct options (brake disk setup: single/dual ?? ....and make sure you select 16'' wheel!!!)

Don't think the legs are chrome (bike not in hand until next week), but I may swap out the lowers while I'm at it. The mid-glide kit does not have an option for the 16" wheel???

If I read correctly the 2007 has a 3/4" axle while the 2008 - up use a 1" axle. May be hard to find chrome lower legs for this 2007...or could I change the conversion kit to a 2008 - up and buy some newer lowers? Like these maybe... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Chrom...sories&vxp=mtr

Unfortunately that kit will not work. Your bike has 41mm forks, that is for older Sportsters.

You are saying the 2007 883L has 41mm forks??? Why do all the kits state clearly what years they fit? Everything I'm seeing so far says 39mm.

EDIT: Confirmed from Vulcan they are indeed 39mm forks.

The mid glide kit has no option for 16'' because what people usually do when they want a fat 16'' front tire is to use a 16'' rear wheel in the front... however the hub on those wheels is too wide for either stock or mid glide trees.. MREED took a stock hub, wider 16'' rim... and after lacing it.. he had a 16'' rim that even fits on a stock front end!... here is the thread:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...id-struts.html

so how come the 48 comes with a fat 16'' front wheel on a mid glide configuration... well.. I am willing to bet that the 48 front wheel is like the one MREED made.. (correct me if I am wrong please..)
