I'm 5' 11" and with forwards and some bars my 883 fits me fine.

I would ride a few different models before buying one.

6' 3" here on mid controls and 10" Z bars. Used to have a 1200C with forwards, since I've been on mids I would never go back.

6' Tall here and very comfortable on my wifes sporty w/ fwd controls. After I rode it home from the dealer I ordered set of fwds for my FXDL. Very easy installation if you need to add them.

6'3" and comfortable on my 883. It's not all pegs; if you look at a bunch of pictures (or bikes in the shop) you can see that the handgrips are in varying lengths from the top of the front forks; bars make a big difference, too. Mine don't sweep back much, so I can stretch out my arms. Riding with your elbows against your ribs just won't work. You actually have more adjustment possibilities with bars than pegs; there are only two positions unless you build a radical racer with rear sets.

Good advice on the MSF riders course. HD also offers Riders Edge in some areas. I took my first course at 17 years old back in california. It was an easier way to get an endorsement. 31 years later im still going . Sportsters are a great fun bike. (ive had 4 of them over the years) If I didn't need to go 90 MPH on the freeways of montana regularly id still own one. You can do anything to them and they are a blast.
