Where is the reset button?/
Just one of those days and I am venting...
Got the new bars got everything wired and tucked and assembled. All excited to finish up and go for a ride!! Tighten everything down.... SNAP.... second bolt on the tree to the handlebars snaps inside.... well my weekend is done. guess I am gonna have to give my life savings to the stealership to get it out... |
You can do it yourself. I forget the name of the tool but you can get it at any hardware store on the cheap and save yourself a couple hundred from the stealer

just drill it out, get a replacement screw from any hardware store.

A reverse drill bit works well also, if you didn't cross tread the bolt which I doubt ...you can remove the broken piece easy. Use a center punch, drill bit and a ease out, or a reverse bit. Go to any hardware store, home depot or a lowe's and they will show you how and show you the tools needed. Take the other end of the broken bolt to show so you get the correct tools to remove it.

Those are pretty stout bolts - musta really cranked it. Check the service manual but I think the torque on those is in the neighborhood of 18-20 lbs. ft. This is an item that you should pay attention to the torque on.

Thanks for the replies and help..
I finished putting them on last night but did not tighten them down cause I had a little more to do bolt was not all the way in still had about half inch left I finished the right side then moved to the left and did half a crank and snap. I found it odd it was a "heavy" turn when I gave the first push but it snapped while I was thinking that in my head... no idea really. I do have the manual and follow the specs but did not even get it all the way in. I do all my own wrenching but to be honest counter sinks or drilling it out scares me I don't want to mess up the threads in the bars and there is not alot of room to work between the two base plates of the tree. I will have another look and decide if I am feeling brave... thanks again. |
