I bought Mobil 1 for my 1200R because I've used them for years in my WRX, but I've used Amsoil in my 800 ZR snowmobile, so I guess I could try that too. Thing is, Advance was having a sale for $42 you got 4 qts of Mobil Syn V-twin and a fram chrome filter. Amsoil doesn't have a retailer up here that stocks the 20w50 right now - but maybe next time I'll order it in if the price is fair.

Has anyone tried the new Mobile syn in their sporty?

My iron has 7000 on it. I have a service plan at the dealership and they have been using amsoil 20w50 top and bottom on my bike. Is the 20w50 gonna hurt my bike if i switch to the amsoil gear lube after my service plan runs out? I dont thnk they have the gear lube. I guess i could buy a quart since its just one quart capacity.

I chose Mobil1 20W-50 and 75W-90 (gear oil) for engine/primary respectively.
First time I use both, but I have always been happy with their 10W-40 Motorcycle Racing oil.

The only oil Amsoil recommends for the Primary on the Sportster is the 20W50 engine oil:

https://www.amsoil.com/products/stre...oil_chart.aspx

Personally, I'm using the Formula+ in the Primary and Amsoil 20W50 in the engine. Only because my bike shifts so smooth with it, I don't want to mess with it. I'm sure the Amsoil would be just as good.

Since the 5,000 mile mark I've run RevTech 25w60 in the engine and Harley Formula+ in the tranny and the cHarley recommended 63813-90T oil filter. To my ears the tranny shifts much quieter using the Formula+

PS, when my wife and I fly we try to choose flights where Boeing is the ride.

All motor oils contain an additive package that's designed to deal with the nasty combustion by-products in the motor. This additive package is useless in a gearbox. Gear oil contains an additive package which is designed to deal with "molecular shearing" which occurs in gearboxes.

This is from Amsoil: AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement.

How does this square or not square with what you wrote concerning "additive packages"

Organic coconut oil in the primary.
Peanut oil in the engine.
I deep fry my TG turkeys in my used engine oil.
Recycle/reuse.
