Default 03 883 Idle fine but as soon as give gas it dies

Have a 2003 883, have V&H straight pipes and Arlen Ness Big Sucker stage 2 intake. starts fine runs fine at idle, as soon as I give it gas it dies, small buff a black smoke comes out of exhaust. have 160 main, mixture is 2.25 turns.. this is happening with or without the big sucker, I put the orginal intake on and it still does this. I am stumped at what this could be.. I have new battery installed this year.

either the main jet is clogged, the float or needle is sticking, or the accelerator pump is junk. This is assuming the bike is warmed up completely. If the bike is still cold, pull the choke closed a little bit and see if that fixes the issue.

If the bike is actually warmed up and still dying, bang on the bottom of the carb with a PLASTIC handled screwdriver a few times, and see if you can knock the float loose. Next pull your gas line off the carb and turn the petcock on and make sure you're getting fuel. Next with the bike off, gas on, take the air cleaner off and have the choke off, and twist the throttle while looking down the venturi to see if you see a squirt of gas coming out of the jet. If there's no squirt, probably your accel pump.

Pulling the bowl of the carb is no biggie, check for dirt and blow compressed air through everything if you have access to it.

its getting fuel i took a off the intake and can see fuel coming out of pilot jet, i jetted the carb with dyno jet kit, the only jet i left alone was the pilot jet all others are new. I am starting to think I screwed up the bowl, maybe its set to high and allowing to much gas in the bowel. does this sound like it could be the problem?

like i said its idles great, just as soon as you touch the throttle it starts to run rough and give it a little more gas it dies.. if i dont touch the throttle it runs great sounds great, but as soon as i touch that throttle, runs rough then dies little bit a black smoke out the exhaust.

I'd double check the dynojet install again, sounds like you may have mis-installed the float possibly.

ahh didn't realize you had just jetted. Make sure the slow jet is unscrewed at least a couple turns if you moved it, and yeah, check the float level. If you're getting black smoke, it's probably a rich condition.

I had a 94 suzuki bandit 400 that did the same thing. Never found out what the issue was, but I was thinking, could this be a regulator/coil issue? When you give it gas could it be throwing something in your ignition system off? not too sure, but maybe something to check?

try shutting the gas off while it's running and if the float lvl is too high it will smooth out. otherwise it's probably a jet issue. sometimes when you clean a carb on an older bike it gets better fuel flow causing it to run rich. worth a shot before you pull the bowl back off

I think you mean the idle mixture screw. The slow (Pilot) jet and the main jet should be seated snugly.

It sounds to me like you might have a float issue.

You have it jetted quite lean you should have a 170 main and a 45 slow jet. That will help. The cough out the intake is a good indicator of a lean mixture.
