There is a plastic 'wheel' that the throttle & return cable attch to on the throttle body. This 'wheel' has a nub sticking off the right side of it that, when @ idle, rests against a screw. If I adjust this screw, it will then stop the 'wheel' @ a different location. Will this adjust the idle? I know it's mostly controlled by the ECM but if this wheel stops to soon doesn't it make the ECM think it's still getting a little throttle? My idle seems too high & I'd like to lower it to about 900-950 rpm's. I'd say it's about 1,100 rpm's now. Thanks.

 

After looking at mine, unless the screw is mis-adjusted and not allowing the throttle to reach its fully closed position, I think that if you adjust the screw outward it will increase idle speed (won't allow the throttle to close all the way). If you adjust it inward, I don't think it will change the idle one way or the other (throttle can only close so far). To adjust the idle speed you need either a Tuner like the power vision, SEPST, etc.

 

The ECM sets the idle at about 1250 if I remember correct. That screw will only adjust the air for idle, not the fuel like on a carb. Its very similar to your car bro. With a tuner you can adjust the idle and such.

 

I just went & investigated mine. Mine appears to not be letting the TB flap close completely. Is it supposed to? I tried adjusting it but it has a security Torx screw so I couldn't.

 

My TB flap closes completely when the bike is off, so there might be some sort of adjustment there you can do. Mine idles at bang on 1000 RPM when warmed up, 1300 when cold.

I have a Powervision and have never had to adjust idle speed.

If you are under warranty I'd probably take it in to get adjusted.

 

Check the service manual. the adjustments at the TB are for adjusting your throttle cables tension and return. Idle speed is controlled by your ecm, you need something like the sepst to change it.

 

If I'm correct, there should be about .006 to .012" opening at the throttle plate for idle air in the closed position. That's what the screw adjusts. Please correct me if I'm wrong bro because I'm still learning our bikes too lol.

 

You are probably right, there would need to be a small gap for idle air. I'm just going from memory last week when I had my AC off. It looked closed but there could have been a small gap like that which I probably didn't notice.

 

Don't touch that screw! Seriously!!!!

 

Leave it alone ....Unless you want to starve the top end of oil...
