Waiting soo long to mount this Tank!! Stock seat will not fit
Hi There,
I have a serious problem, I put some Dyna badges on a new sportster tank for my Harley Iron. I was waiting about 2 months between getting the tank painted etc...
Whe I put the new tank on(4.5 gallon), my stock seat would not fit. It needs about 1 inch more clearance to go on.
Has anyone run into this problem? You can see on the old tank where the tank meets the lower support that there is a lot more room.
I guess I'm going to have to mod the seat to get it on, but that means, it'll be no use if I put back on the original tank.
The seat buts up against the new tank, has anyone modified the stock seat on an Iron?
Thanks
Old Tank
THis is the NEW TANK
Here is a shot of an Iron I found on the Internet...Looks like a different saddle(Double stitch line a the back), I comes just into line with the front of the oil tank unlike my seat!

I put a 4.5 gallon tank on my 05 and the seat was to long Just pull the vinyl loose on thefront and trim a little foam then staple vinyl back cut a little at a time and try fit til you get just the right amount without going to far if you dont go to far and dont pull vinyl super tight you cant tell the differance

Thanks for your replies
Thanks a million for your replies guys, THe nightster seat was a very good insight, I'll have to check that out.
Sorry Aaron48, I'm in Dublin,Ireland(not so many Harley parts flying around) so it would be a bit much to swap with you in Maine ;p
I'll post up whatever solution I go with, but at the moment I had to stick on my old Tank because it's my only way of getting around.

Time for some feedback
ok, I went from homeschool way, since Harley parts cost an arm and a leg in Ireland!! I had to convert my Iron 883 seat to a Nightster seat to fit the 4.5 Gallon tank. I used a dremmel to cut the simple plastic harley seat support then I pealed back the leather and put a few staples in it to finish the job.... It was a very simple operation and very quick too, the result is I NOW have my new tank on and the seat looks great, I'm going to do the same on my double badlander seat next.
A VERY HAPPY ENDING ;p hahhaa
