Sportster 1200 custom speedo not working
Ok. Very new to Harley's and this forum so please don't blast me to hard if I do or say somthing wrong. I recently bought a 2006 hd sportster 1200 custom. I know that there is no screaming eagle factory sportster but everything on the bike says SE. So my question is two parts. Did someone actualy add all the SE parts after market or is it possible it's a true screaming eagle? also when I bought the bike the speedo wasn't working. Its completely dead. No lights no mileage nothing at all. But all the blinkers ( on this model are the blinkers supposed to cancel on there own after a turn?) high beams horn neutral light etc work just fine. The guy I bought from said it quit working after he had to jump start the bike using a car. Any ideas about what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated. I already checked ( with a meter) all the 15amp fuses and there all good. Plus I gave 3800 for the bike, fair price? Thanks guys

Depends on the bike and how it is set up. On my 01 I have drag bars and a bunch of connecters hidden in the bar riser below the speedo, could be an issue with one of those. I would pull the tank and look for any apparent rubs and nicks in the harness. Short of something obvious you might need to invest in a wire diagram and chase the fault.

Jump starting these bikes from a car can kill electronics. So hopefully no damage was done. That said, my speedo stopped working when my battery was on its way out. Just wasn't holding a strong charge. Took me a while to figure out the problem. The fact you said he jumped the bike might be an indicator the battery isn't fully charged or struggling to hold on. Put it on a charger overnight and see if it works in the morning.

There were no SE sportsters, so yes, one of the previous owners added all of those SE parts. Yes, the blinkers are self cancelling & work on both the lean angle for a turn & distance travelled in a straight line. Jumping the bike from a running car is bad. The previous owner may have fried the speedo. Yes, I'd think $3800 was a good deal for an '06.
