You might want a bigger tank. Those 2.1 tanks don't offer much range. Depending on the altitude your gas mileage could be reduced by as much as 10%. That could be the difference between making it and pushing.

Have you run the tank down to figure out your range? Do it a couple of times to make sure than subtract about 10% as Baka suggested and you'll know if you can do it.

BTW Baka1969 - Nice bike - I may be biased though!

Highway miles and around town miles are different. You'll get better mpg on the highway. Oh, and I'd never get anywhere if I was afraid of riding a mountian freeway. Just brake before the turn and start rolling on the throttle going through the apex & out of the turn.

Ride the route on a day off at a time when there is not much traffic. That way you don't feel rushed and can get a feel for the road. Then you can decide if you want to ride to work or not. Make it a good first experience and you'll become a commuter like a lot of us.

Boy, that brings back memories. When I was a kid, we went over the Grapevine to get to Gandma's house in Buttonwillow. I think about it every time I smell burning truck brakes.

I know it's weird, but I still love that smell.

Default Only Tip I Can Think Of

The only tip I can think of for riding up in the mountains is to stay away from the edges! Going over could be a bit**!
