Didn't hear the high pitched whine afterwards.
So I think it does have something to do with fuel level and the fuel pump.
Yeah I did the same thing. Fired it up after work and it was doing it. Stopped to top off and fired ot back up, not a peep.

I have the same issue with my '07 1200C that started 3 weeks ago. The difference with my situation is the noise starts while it's priming the fuel pump and it continues until I shut the bike off. The other difference is it only happens when it's hot outside. Early morning commutes and late evening rides are fine.

Fuel level doesn't seem to make any difference in my case - only the outside temperature.

There may have been a Service Bullitin instead of a recall. Service Bullitins only get taken care of if there is a customer complaint about something (like your noise).

I agree with you that I think temperature may have something to do with it. Because regardless of fuel level I don't notice it in the morning or evening rides. I almost always hear it when leaving work in the afternoon / early evening.
However when I went out to get gas (it was still probably in the mid to upper 90's) I definitely did hear the whine, then I got gas and there was no whine.

Some have said that the Spacer-Regulator Kit (#61005-07) fixed their issue.

Going to order my kit today.

Interesting.

I've also noticed that I've got worse gas mileage the past couple of weeks. Can high temperature cause that?

I have noticed my MPGs are down a bit as well.

One of the gurus over at XLForums posted a link for "Tech Tip 328" which covers the Regulator Spacer Kit (#61005-07) - https://www.box.com/s/6g6czdcjxy2vkq4ys324

This sounds a lot like my boss. Is he asking you to work this weekend also?
