Spring Solo Mounting
 

Can anyone please show some pics of how they have a spring solo seat mounted on their sporty? I have a '12 Nightster that I'm thinking about going to a spring solo on, but I'm a little confused on how it mounts. I see a bolt that looks like it holds the back of the gas tank on, and I assume this is the front attachment point for the seat bracket? I'm also curious how the spring mounting works.

I'm looking at the Redtail Leather seats and just trying to figure out what brackets and such I'd need to order.

just get your seat and find a seat hinge on line that will either bolt up or weld up to your frame. not too many making bolt on hinges for late model sporties for some reason but lucid kustoms makes one as well as kundratic customs if you don't want to make your own. check out mreed's threads though if you are interested in making your own. the rear seat studs on most seats are 7" apart. are you running springs or rigid mounting? if springs, you'll need a bracket for the rear that holds the springs and mounts them to the rear seat studs which may or may not involve light drilling and tapping. i say, if you're keeping the shocks and not putting on solid struts (which will fvck your swingarm up eventually) then rigid mount it. to do that you'll only need some soft rubber bushings to screw into the rear seat studs and they just rest on top of the frame under the seat but you'll still need a hinge. this is what i was tlaking about as far as the spring mounting goes:

or you can get one of these from rich phillips (you can use the hairpins or std. springs) but they look too hokey dokey imo...

Thanks man. I'm trying to figure a way to be able to swap this out with a 2up for my OL. I needed to figure out how the spring seat traditionally mounts before I start getting creative. Your pics are helpful.

check out mother road customs they sell seats and mounts to adapt from normal to spring seat
