Default Superlow triple trees?

Hi All,
I started converting my Wifes 2011 XL883 Superlow to a trike and after asking several hundred questions think the raked trees will be the best for handeling. The problem I am running into is finding trees to fit. When I measure from center-to-center of the forks I get 8 1/2". I would guess this is the midglide trees. I haven't had any luck finding anyone that can help. HHI has a midglide but are hesitant to recommend them because there measurements are like 8.437". Can you guys give me some of the actual measurements from your bikes? Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks and have a greaat day,
Kens03

My 4 degree mid glids from Covington Cycle measure 8.5 center to center with a tape measure and an eyeball.

Talk to Loner Industries. When he gets done with SEMA, he might think about getting a set of triple trees and reverse engineer them for me to get to use regular risers.

Just in case you didn't try this way, measure from the edge of one tube to the same edge of the other one. It is easier to get an accurate measurement that way, rather than trying to work out where the centre is. My 2011 SuperLow measures just over 8 3/8", which corresponds to that 8.437", certainly not 8.5". Hope that helps! I used an adjustable square.

Hi GR,
I have a picture of the top tree off my Superlow and the measurement shown. Go View my public profile and select go to garage, you will see a couple of pictures, one of them will be the top tree and a tape measure. It is 8 1/2". This measurement is within 1/16".
Thanks much,
Ken

Hi Ken,

1/16" is .063", the precise difference between 8.5" and 8.437! So that small amount is critical to sorting this out. I hope you will understand if I don't dismantle my forks! It is difficult to be sure looking at your photo, but I reckon those HHI trees are fine.

I think the simplest way to solve this is to visit your local friendly dealer's showroom and measure other bikes. Be clear what models HHI has trees for, so you can check an identical model and compare it against a SuperLow. Hopefully you will find suitable models on show.

If you have an extending measuring tape with a lock, you can use it as a gauge. It isn't really necessary to measure, just compare. Hold the end of the tape against one fork leg, extend the tape past the other leg and lock it so the body of the tape is just resting against it. With it locked you can offer it up to other bikes in the same way (don't unlock it) to see if they are the same distance.

If they are identical you're quids in, as we say over here! Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for the quick reply Graham,
I will make sure I get the measurement exact this time. I sure hope I am wrong and the mid glide will fit. My Wife whould be happy as well.
Thanks again and I will let you know what I find out,
Ken

Could the measurement be 1/16" larger due to the clamps being open?
