I can't address the actual paint but the trick to any paint, rattle can or otherwise is in the prep. Cleaning and out gassing if needed. Steam works good as a start. I did some honda dirtbike motors a few years ago, what I used escapes me. Anyway one I just cleaned and sprayed the other I took alot of time in prep. Big diff in a few months. I'll see if I can lookup the paint I used and get back with you.

I painted over the factory gray on my 09 XR1200 with VHT black engine paint from Autozone. Been almost 2 years and it's still looking good. Same with the VHT epoxy black i used on the swingarm and a couple other parts.

Tinfoil? That's a new idea, I've used some odd stuff to mask off parts before, but not tinfoil. Rubber cement is good for small details too, peels right off.
I can see where tinfoil would work well, kind of molds itself around things. Good idea.
