thunder torque inserts and short shots
I'm running into a headache here, I bought the dk customs thunder torque inserts and just installed them tonight, the problem is when I try to put the heat shields back on they are hitting the nut holding the insert. Has anyone else ran into this problem? What did you do to fix it? I'm thinking about grinding down the shield to make room since I planned on repaintong the shields anyway.. any thoughts?

Alternatively, you could get a low profile jam nut and lock washer, might have to cut a few of the threads off, then it would fit under the shield.

Hmm, I was installing them with the pipes still on the bike and in the original baffle mounting hole.. I took the heat shield off to gain access to the hole. Now that its off and the torque cone is in I cant slide it back on. So from the way you have done it is to drill a larger hole to be able mount it and keep the shield on while installing it? The product is awesome quality by the way. I noticed when installing it was difficult to keep the cone still enough to torque down the lock nut. What did.you do for this. Just curious. I used a set of pliers to hold it while tightening it down

I've got a set of his thunder torque inserts, and I wanted to try them in place of my quiet baffles.. but didn't want to drill the baffle install bolt larger to insert the torque insert in case I didn't like the sound or got more popping. Anyone have experience with both thunder torque inserts and V&H quiet baffles? Louder is always better, but open short shots don't have a good sound.. was wondering where the inserts fell on the spectrum.

today was my first ride with the inserts and i love it... its still loud, as i love it, but no more annoying popping. The torque is there now unlike before. The hole is only a little bigger, I think if you wanted to reinstall the baffels you could still do so just using a washer on the outside.
