Default Leaf springs for a solo seat?

I'd like to put a solo seat on my ride. But I don't want it setting so high like with the regular springs. Is there a flat spring set up? Sort of like a leaf spring on a car sitting across the back of the seat? I'm looking for the seat to move a little but have a low profile.

They make what they call a hairpin spring, those are pretty low profile.

I don't know any companies making them, but I have seen some guys take a small section of a leaf spring and mount it at the front "hinge" and then at a couple of spots on the bottom of the seat pan.

Looks pretty cool, and if you have the right spring for your weight, will ride nice too.

Do a google image search of "leaf spring motorcycle seat" it will bring up some pics.

I guess I'll have to mock something up. I'm looking at the seat being bolted up in front the normal way. But in back instead of coil springs ( that make the seat set high) I'm thinking of a peace of sprung steel shaped like a bow (the shooting type lol) that go's across the seat and rides in a tray. when you hit a bump it just flattens out to obsorb the shock. Maybe it's a bad Idea. I'll figure something out.

Sounds like a good idea, you would have to leave at least one end of the spring in a slot so it can slide to let the spring flatten out some. Maybe a leaf spring from an antique baby carriage or something like that might work.

Jim, look at the pic a couple of posts up. It is a great idea.

Just get a seat pan, and a seat hinge (click HERE for those), then go to a junk yard and get a piece of an old leaf spring for free, or a couple of bucks. Bolt it together, and you're good.

Oh, you probably will want a cover and some padding (see above link) and then paint or powder the spring.
