Wheelie on 883? What is the secret?
 
I have been suprised to see 883s on the youtube doing wheelies.
The question is how can you get enough POWER to do a wheelie?
I believe that there is a huge gap in acceleration on my 883 to lift the front wheel.
So what is the secret of this power?
I am old enough for wheelies but I would like some extra acceleration :D

Acceleration isn't everything. There's a lot of clutch work in doing a wheelie with a Sporty.

The best advice i can give ya on bringing up the front would be to make sure you commit to it. I've personally never dumped the clutch to get it up. I always just find the sweetspot in the power band and transfer my weight. On some bikes I've actually had to bring my ass up off the seat and time the throttle with my ass coming down and pulling back on the bars.

That bike has a huge rear sprocket. Its designed for stunting and is about worthless outside of a parking lot. There's lots of pictures online of people stunting sportys like that. The videos you're watching on youtube aren't set up like that. But.....I'm sure you watched the one in front of Neptune's Net, I know that kid, he weighs <150lbs. Thats a factor too. Some more advice for you, sit on the rear seat (if you have a two up seat) and use your passenger pegs. Having all your weight in the rear helps

My major problem comes at low rpms from the drag pipes....these guys probably have 2 in 1 sport exausts plus other goodies....and I dont think on my 43 I can learn new tricks :)

If you spin the motor up and dump the clutch with your butt closer to the rear axle, the front is coming up. It can't not come up if you have traction. At that point, it's a teeter-totter of you vs the motor and front end. The only thing to check the rise is COVER THE BACK BRAKE!

Again.... COVER THE BACK BRAKE!

Most of those stunt guys have another lever on the bars that operates the back break or an auxilliary back brake so they can move around the bike without having to leave a foot by the back brake.

Once more.... COVER THE BACK BRAKE!!

You might try to learn the balance point of your bike by using 2 motorcycle restraints to lift and hold the frontend up at he point where it's easy to tip it back and tip it forward. Then climb on and get the muscle memory for how it feels. You need to know and become less fearful of the bike at this position. It'll be lower in the front once you're on it sitting rearward, so have a buddy there with you to adjust it. Not so scary when it comes up on you if you know your balance point.

....and....say it..... COVER THE BACK BRAKE!

Having said all that, I and the rest of the sentient universe do not recommend you try anything like this using anything with wheels on any planet at any time. It's too dangerous. My personal advice to you is don't do it.

On all my bikes ill just accelerate hard and I just snap the clutch. Like just pull it in and let it out fast. As you do that, fricken hammer down haha.
AND like joker said, always cover the rear brake. Keep your foot on it at all times. Unless you're past 12 o'clock it'll bring that front tire right back down.

You need to find the sweet spot, especially on an under powered 883. Lower tire pressure, work the clutch. Good luck

Oh and don't panic and slam the rear brake to hard. It can send you into or over the bars.

Bottom line, I don't think the internet is the right place to learn how to wheelie a bike.. I suggest riding a Honda 50cc. That's the best thing to learn the balance point, learn how to use the rear brake and get comfortable with being vertical. Worst case scenario you can just step off the back instead of launching your harley down the street on its side.

any other bike on the planet 883cc and above and my 100hp sportster.
