Biltwell Keystone Handlebars Install on a Iron
I just installed Biltwell Keystone Handlebars on my Iron, but had a couple of questions.
1. My brake line is really tight. Any tips on bending the brake line (ie angles) and do you know how much slack there is on the stock cables? 2. Any tips on removing the stock clutch side grip from the stock handlebars without cutting? Its glued. If anyone has some pictures of how they did their brakeline with these handlebars it would be much appreciated. thanks, |
for the brakeline, i bent mine very slightly, but mine wasnt that tight to start with.
for grip, i used some wd40, stuck the straw down inside and sprayed the hell out of it, left it for 10-15 mins for the wd40 to work its magic and then just pulled it off. it was a bit of a struggle, might help to stick a small flathead screwdriver to loosen any stuck glue |

thanks.
yeah that's the stock brake line. if i went with any taller bars i think id have to get a longer line |
Grock23 did you get "8 or the 10" bitwells?
Thanks in advance.. |
The WD40 trick should work for the grip or Goo-gone can do some pretty good work

I just did the install about 4 weeks ago.
The brake line on mine was not too tight, so I have no experience there. For the grip, as some others have stated, get some WD-40 in there and run some sort of shim around in there to break up the glue (I used the thin metal handle of a long kitchen spoon). If it is still stuck, get a friend to help hold the bars while you twist it off--should be too hard. I did not use glue to reinstall on the keystones and the grip does not move, if it does I'll get a little glue in there--but for not it is fine. -Wildcat |

Thanks in advance.. Heres a link to what I bought: http://www.biltwellinc.com/index.php...ct_detail&p=53 |
This was with the 2" handlebar risers from DK. On my 2011 Iron with stock handlebars. The bend would have turned out better if I would have found my small bender.
|
I am also looking at these bars, I am guessing you got non-dimpled to keep the stock lines
|
If the irons brakeline is anything like the nightster's its the worst design I've ever seen it goes from bendable to solid and back to bendable. But you can't really bend it worthwhile because of the soft to solid. Mine didn't even fit due to risers.
If you can make a full lock to lock swing without problems then you should be fine if not http://www.magnumshielding.com/store...=2009&x=18&y=9 Stock Iron brake lines are 42" |
I would spend a few extra bucks and get a brake line of proper length. Just not to keen on a line being that tight.

Interesting. I didn't need to do any bending when I installed mine. Everything fit nice, and the lines aren't tight at all.
