Looks AWESOME Tzrider
I know it's been several years now since you did this conversion, did you ever have any issues? I'm curious because I've been looking widen my rear tire as well. I have a 2014 Iron 883 sportster and it looks as though all the dimensions are the same as a 48. Any suggestions thx

Any information on the spacer sizes? I purchased the spacers off the ebay guy but these do not center the wheel.

thanks for the write up, 09 Nightster worked like a charm. Saved a lot of money when I didn't have to buy a new swing arm just for a 180 conversion.

Nice write up. Nice mod. Post some close ups on the spacing/alignment. Thanks for sharing.

Would you happen to still have the bike or have the dimension between the swingarm on your 48? I have a '14 1200 custom that I would like to put a 180 on myself for a fatter look, but still be able to handle good for these bayou roads over here in the boot.

Default 180 rear conversion

1) I used a 2013 dyna 17x4.5 wheel and a Michelin scorcher "11" 180 tire
2) the 48 and dyna hubs are identical so axle, bearings and

spacer ( between bearings) are interchangeable.dyna is left drive so just turn the wheel around
3) the dyna wheel is laced with the rim slightly offset, the wheel fits fine but I didn't want my rear tire offset to the left so I took 3mm off the right side spacer. I then made a 3mm spacer for the left side which I put between the swing arm and caliper mount ( this also keeps the caliper centered)
4) I replaced the nuts on the bolts that go through the fender struts with 5/16-18 jam nuts ( they are much shallower) and cut the excess protruding bolts off.
5) I routed the turn signal wires between the fender struts and fender strut covers instead of under the fender were they originally were.
6) the license plate mount fit in the original location but I opted to modify it and move it forward, I also cut off the reflectors
7) I noticed in one pic the belt guard looks close but its actually not at all

TZrider sorry I'm new to using forums but was wondering what size were the spacers on each side? I know you have a 3mm spacer between the swing arm and caliper but do you know the actual size for the spacer on the belt side? Also is it a total of the spacer? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure. I have the same wheels and rim size just putting it on a iron so I figured pretty much the same as a 48

Hi all,

I now that this thread is a couple of years old now but has someone measured the 180 tire after installing on a 4.5" wheel. I can imagine that it will get closer to a 170 then 180.

I just bought myself a 2014 Forty Eight as a upcoming winter project and want to do a tire and wheel swap al so. I had in mind of getting a 16x5.5" wheel and use parts from XL1200CX like the swingarm. This swingarm will accept a 5.5" wheel and then using a offset pully because I want to keep te beltdrive.
