Default Do you think it's time for batt change

I have an 09 low, it has the original battery. I keep it on a tender when it's parked overnight. Over the last week when I hit the start button it hesitates for a second or so, then kicks on no problem. Haven't had any other problems, just seems to hesitate a little longer. You think time for a new one or do I have some time with it. Thanks

My 08 original battery starting doing that. It would hold a charge but had trouble turning over at first. I got it load tested and the amps were down from where they should be after a full charge on the tender. New battery was purchased and it fires right up now. I figured I was better safe than sorry. I don't like being stranded somewhere.

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking also, was going bak and forth cause I didn't wanna drop the cash right now, but I don't wanna deal with a dead battery somewhere either

Might also try cleaning your battery terminal connections.

Get it load tested. Most places will do it for free.

They all go over time no matter how well maintained. Mine was getting weak this summer and I knew it would be a problem this winter so I went ahead and replaced it...good to go.

Agree - at both ends - and check the condition of the starter wiring and connectors as well. If your battery tests OK but is under-charged, check your bike's charging circuits. There are Stickies in the DIY Electrics section to guide you.

Thanks all for the replies. I ended up going to harley and picked up a battery. When I was installing it, I found some corrosion on the positive terminal, so cleaned that up. After wrestling with the negative connection for a half hour, as I was to lazy to disconnect it at the ground as I should of, it fired right up. So good to go.

I just replaced mine... same year & model as yours, it was the original battery but I'm the second owner so don't know if prev. owner used a battery tender.

Its time to replace it. If you ignore it you risk regulator or stator failure or just getting stuck with a dead battery somewhere (sucks). Get a battery tender and use it whenever you aren't riding it for more than a week.
