changing rocker box covers, do i need new gaskets? just did 1200 conversion...

I'm changing my rocker box covers to black ones and i was going to keep the gaskets that were used during the conversion. should i get new ones or just let them be?

also...

I ordered this rocker wrench to do the work...

how does it work with a torque wrench?

I have one of those wrenches, I think they are really handy.

The torque wrench fits in the square hole. You have to remember it's now extended though, and have to adjust the torque down accordingly. ie, if it's 20% longer, cut your torque by 20%, something like that. There's some calculators online.

Re gaskets, for what they cost, I'd say just put new ones in. The time to take it all apart again if one leaks just isn't worth not using new ones.

thanks, i'll try to find the calculator grab some gaskets. i just need the gasket, right? no special goo or rtv mess?

correct, don't use any goo in there.

outer gasket and inner rectangular gasket.

depending on how many miles you have on it, you might want to replace the breather filters while you're in there (assuming yours has the same filters as my '06).

here's a calculator
