Sidecar for a Sporty?

Yes, I can hear some of you laughing right now.
Nevertheless, here are my questions: Anyone here have experience using a sidecar? Can my '05 1200R handle a sidecar? If so, should I also invest in an auxiliary oil cooler in light of the extra weight and strain on the engine? What else should I be thinking about involving sidecars?
I'm thinking a sidecar would make for fun riding at times, especially on extended trips, and at this point I don't want to buy a honking big touring bike like a Road King or Ultra Classic.
(And yes, I'll get around to posting a pic of my bike, as soon as I get the new Mustang Vintage seat put on, new mirrors and saddlebags. Gotta wait for the chilly Northeast Ohio weather to warm up a bit so I can work in the garage.)

Consider a Trike also ... I haven't myself done the sidecar. I know people that have , they loved them . I am in the process of converting an 883 to a trike . This will be city/60 mph riding ...

I thought about a sidecar for mine as well. I think they are pretty cool looking, and definitely unique, but then you'd have to hide in the house from all the neighborhood kids wanting rides around the block...:D

Thanks for the support!
Does anyone have any sidecar manufacturers to recommend?
Pros and cons of sidecars?
And has anyone here ridden a Sporty with a sidecar attached?

Check out this web site and hopefully it will give you some insight. www.sidecar.com
I am looking into this subject to help my B-I-L out as he bought a RK and a side car seperately and a bunch of us are planning a 5K trip this spring and need to get all this figured out.
You can also do a Google search and find some good information.
Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Considering that the little 350 Enfield currently made in India is offered from the factory with a sidehack, a 1200 should have little trouble with one. You would probably want to use an 883 sprocket to get a little more pulling power.

Handling a sidehack is unlike anything you have ever experienced and it takes some getting used to. If it is at all possible, you would do well to try and get in a few miles with one to see if you like it before buying one.

Several years ago I attended a local independent shop's annual cookout also in attendance was the owner of a Sporty-w/sidecar. She and her mother toured 10-15k each year and were having the time of there lives.

I met a guy last year that had a sidecar on a sporty , He was from Canada and was traveling across the U.S. with his wife . It bike looked really nice and was professionally done and painted to match , I cant remember the name of the company that did the work but it was flawless , and he said it handled great. Do a search I am sure you will find the parts you need.
