My biggest fear. I live in Pa which has the highest number of deer strikes in the country.

Sorry about the bike. But all that is replaceable. YOU are not. Glad you are ok. Get that ankle checked out just in case.

Agreed! Being in rural Maryland it's a constant threat here as well. I haven't had any close calls yet, but I'm sure I will.

News update After speaking to the adjuster I went and inspected the damage on the tank.
I and my wife both had a hard time finding this horrific dent that caused the bike to be totaled. And WE find it acceptable. I can live with this tiny dent. I couldn't find it even after it was pointed out to me. So the bike is now moved into the repairable category.
Yaaaay. Now fix my bike.
Oh it is getting a new front wheel too.

Dang! Glad you're OK. The bike you can fix. Glad you kept it up, could have been worse otherwise.
Deer, dogs, coyotes (bad around here) and other critters are always a worry. They seem to home in on vehicles for some reason. Deer whistles . . . . may or may not work, seen lots of trucks with huge deer shaped dents that were sporting deer whistles in my day.
Sometimes, there is nothing you can do but hold tight, and pray.
Had a couple of close calls, but nothing like that. in my case, in a scary moment on the bike, the "pucker factor" seems to keep me glued to the seat. And a bit of experience and pure luck kept my on both wheels.
Whatever your doing, keep doing it, cause someone up there likes you.
