Default Oil tank leak

I've got a '90 1200 and have been doing some oil trail detective work. All the hoses are in good shape yet there is a drip coming from the bottom of the tank. I've removed the tank but it's still difficult to tell. Does anyone know a way to check for leaks in the tank itself after removal?

Clean and dry the tank, plug the hose connections on the tank, then fill it with liquid. I'd probably fill with something thinner than oil, like mineral spirits.

These tanks are prone to cracking along one of the battery mounts. Brilliant job of engineering hanging a 13 pound battery from two small bolts. Might be able to braze the crack. Go over to xlforum.net for some other solutions to this problem. Mine has not cracked on my 1991, but I'm looking to switch to a LiFePO4 battery when mine finally dies.

Thanks very much, it looks like it might be the mount just about the drain pipe that is causing the problem. I'll check the other forum as well.

I think that's where it cracks.
