Default New Member with Blinker problem

Hey guys,
So I recently bought an 1995 883 Sportster. My first Harley....switched over from Jap bikes. I'm not too good with electrical work and don't have a manual yet and was wondering you guys could help me.

So right now my bike only has rear blinkers, and they dont blink. They light up fine as driving lights, but don't blink when I hit the blinker. I have sort of read around and seen that you might need all 4 blinkers getting power for them to work?

Any simple way around this? right now I have the front blinkers wire crimped on one end and empty on the other end, waiting for front blinkers if I decide to add them.

Thanks for any/all advice and recommendations.

Also to add, I have checked the switches and them seem to be wired fined.

Your question didn't belong in the "New Members Area".
It's for introductions. So it was moved in one of the other forums.

One thing you can try is buy led load equalizers and wire them into the front blinker wires. They are resistors that create a draw equivalent to a standard bulb. That should give you your flash back

Speaking of bulbs... I bought a new Iron 883. Wasn't until a couple days later I noticed I didn't have any running lights but the turn signals worked, kind of the reverse of you what you have. Since it's a new bike I had to let some steam vent and then went to the dealership the following weekend and they had the wrong bulbs in the front, as they built it custom before anyone bought it. By putting the correct bulbs in the whole system, front and rear worked as per normal. Keep it simple if that works.

If nobody comes along to answer your question here, I would recommend going over to xlforum.net and check out the electrical section. Tons of technical info and very knowledgable folks over there.

Welcome

you are correct about needing 2 lamps for the lights to flash, you may be able to get around this with a different flasher relay or brighter bulbs, but I don't know which ones would work..the problem is that just one bulb does not draw enough current to cause the relay to heat up and open the circuit causing the flash...you might be able to use something like car reverse lamp bulbs which I believe are brighter than turn signal light bulbs...but hen you have to watch that they don't melt the socket...
