Newbie with a few questions!
 

Alright guys I'm a newbie to the bike world and looking at getting a 2014 hd forty eight. I like the way they look stock but if I end up getting one I'd really like to turn it into a bobber. I'm thinking something like this(see pics)

I really like the look of the new pipes along with the raised tank and shaved rear fender. Sorry if this has been asked before but my question for you guys is how much would it cost to shave the fender and what do you do about the brake light? Last thing I want is to get hit while slowing down cuz the car behind me can't tell I'm stopping. I'm stuck between this bike and another so hopefully my plans for this bike aren't too difficult or expensive and I can go from there. Thanks in advance guys! :icon_dance-tap:

Welcome to the forum Matt.
It depends on how handy you are and how much you are willing to do yourself.
A factory manual should be purchased with the bike if you want to do much of anything with it.
This way you can refer to the manual when you see a mod you're thinking of attempting and decide if you're capable to do the job.
Most maintenance is easy if you're armed with the info you need to complete it.
The dealership guys are human and as such , cut a few corners now and then on maintenance , you can check their work as you go.
I do my own , and if you keep proper records , and mileage , your warantee should be honored.
If you are interested in a mod , just post your thoughts and someone here probably has a few tips on how to complete them.

Are you gonna buy a new 14? If I were gonna chop it up and do a bunch of work to it I would buy a used one, seems silly to pay for a new bike and then cut it all up.

I'm thinking along the same lines as j14woods, why buy a new one and chop it up. THere are plenty Sportsters in garages that have been ridden very little that can be picked up very reasonable.

I know exactly what you mean man. I just like the idea of having a new bike plus all the used ones are going for around the same price as the new ones at least from what I've seen but I'll keep an eye out for a clean used one.

I haven't yet. Why do you say that though? Are they not much fun to ride or something?
