Dark Side--Tuning The Tire
Just installed a Yoko Avid Ascend on the bike, 195/60r16. Fitment was OK, no issues there. I wanted to keep the speed at the same inaccuracy as my old OE Harley and American Elite 3 that I just removed. I put 30# in it, along with 12 oz of Ride On!. I rolled down the highway, first at 50, 60 , 70, 80 , then 90. Bike seemed OK, alittle "rumbly" the best way I could describe it, but nothing that made me paranoid. The only real issue I had was when I turned on to another street, I felt the back end wobble, not unlike that of a tire that's almost flat.
Which brings me to the question.: What do I do with the air? Go up in pressure or down in pressure? |
I'd start at around 45psi and work down in 1psi increments until you get what you're looking for. 30is likely too little, and would make a tire squirmy and too mushy. A severely underinflated tire will almost feel out of round, and very noisy. |
Go up in press. When I went dark for the first time I started at 30 and went up in 2 psi increments. I ended up at 36 - 37 psi cold, but that was on a different tire.

For a 195/60/16 tire, the Ride-On site recommends 20oz.

I run the same tire and ride two up mostly and have found 40psi to be good for me. The tire is wearing perfect and have not found any issues at all that I want to change. pics are at 15,000 miles

It looks like you have more wear on the right side of the tire.
