Insurance Question
 

Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Looking at going darkside - I have my tire picked out already ( ) and I'm in the process of calling around to find someone who will install it for me. I really like the concept and all the of the info on here - I do alot of 2up riding and have gotten a trailer for long distance camping this summer and I think the load ratings on a car tire would be more safe than a bike tire for putting all that weight on my back end...plus give me some additional off the line friction for the quarter mile...:icon_naughty:

The question that keeps running through my head is insurance: If (Lord forbid) something happened could the insurance throw out a claim because of non-standard equipment? Has anyone ever had this happen? I did a search, but nothing came up when I searched "insurance". I guess the most obvious way of finding this out is by asking my insurance agent, but I feel like that depending on their answer I don't want the squeaky wheel to get the grease...if that metaphor makes sense.

The answer is no. Every post I have ever read by someone who as asked their insurance company has posted the same answer. Unless it is obvious that the tire has some how caused claim it is simply not considered.

This is no different than putting apes on your bike, or a bigger front wheel, or a.....

I'll join the darkside soon enough... my current tire has a wee bit more life in it.

I totaled a 2009 RK with a car tire on it. The tire was never mentioned.

Actually the tire doesn't specify "car tire" anywhere on it or the accompanying papers.
