I used some yamalube number 4 on the new intake seals and put the intake on carefully trying to allow it to center. I then put the air cleaner backing plate on and again tried to center it. It had a small gap from where it wanted to sit. I shimmed the backing plate with some of those s&s rubber coated washers. Until it was happy

That should be good.. Sounds like you've have it this time. Stock manifold rings should work.. Make sure that they are flat. Tighten them down evenly.. I use a little blue LT and probably only tighten to 6 to 8 fp.. Technically once the ring touches the head the you only need to tighten enough that the screw don't fall out.. The shape of the manifold ring determines the preload on the rubber seal..

Thanks. I am letting the yamabond set over night and then I'll flight record tomorrow or the next day on the way to work to check it. Fingers crossed

Yeah, meant yamabond. It dries like silicone so I am hoping that seals the gap. If not it will come back off and try again

The idle seemed to have improved. I am still getting the variance in cli's at idle but my Iac steps came up some to about 22-23. I haven't sprayed the seals yet. What do you guys think. Is the variance in cli's just overlap reversion or a still present vacuum/intake leak? Here is a new log

No clue.. I know how to manifold leaks fixed.. Know very little about TTS.

Idle steps confirms an intake leak. Air has to get in there somehow to hold target idle. If still have problems. I'd check depth on sensors in the TH. Known problem I have seen. BUT I would expect smoothest O2 reading at idle.

Yeah.... it still leaks when sprayed with carb cleaner. I got some different seals from Dennis Kirk. One set is a James gasket set kind of like the oems. The other set is the black ones with the metal built into them and the have a lip. I'll try those next week. Looks like I'll be riding the softail on Saturday.

Check the manifold spigots for out of round or tooling. Make sure the rings are not bent.
You mention that the seals leak between the manifold and the spigot. If that is the case something has to be way off.. Either the rings are bent or the air cleaner mounting is way off or the manifold is out of round or cracked. Hardtail mentions O ring seats on injectors. They are probably worth checking. Years ago I had idle problems with 116 ci Dyna running a super G carb. I tried probably 4 different seals and had the carb / manifold on and off the bike 5-6 times.. I check with carb cleaner and idle would change if I sprayed the manifold rings. I replaced pretty much every seal and gasket in the system. Eventually on a whim I replaced the manifold sensor and the problem went away.. I'm not saying that the MAP will fix you problem but it's my bet the issue you are having is not the manifold seals if everything checks out. |
